I would honestly warn people to arrive at least 45 minutes before show time to find a parking spot and work your way through the maze. Also don't like the fact that you can't have one person get in a ticket line and another one in a concession line. I don't like the fact you can't find out if tickets are available until you wind your way through the entire line. Be prepared for a walk up to a 300-400+ yards to find an open space. They also could stagger the start times a bit better to perhaps eliminate some of the parking problems or keep it the same but plow more snow in the adjacent lots. The theater could easily "fix" some of these problems simply by employing more people at the main entrance explaining how the whole setup works. Stress leading to the experience was tough. The theater seating is very nice no bad seats anywhere in the house. Lines do crisscross in the area of drinks/popcorn and people were pretty good about cooperating. The purchaser must put their own butter flavoring on the popcorn. However, you only get empty drink cups and empty popcorn containers with your ticket purchase, you then have to proceed to another set of lines: 1) to fill your own drink cups, and 2) to hand your popcorn container to worker so they can fill it. You order your tickets at the counter and order your concessions at the same time.
Once you finally reached the front of the line a person directed you to an open station. Eventually, a person told us one line was to print out tickets purchased online (to the right), the long snaking line that led to concessions was where you went for tickets. Im old enough to remember velvet chairs and a huge screen with velvet drapes that.

We arrived 35 minutes before showtime but had no idea what to do. The State and Bijou are a project of the Traverse City Film Festival. The State Theater is an enchanting movie theater in downtown Traverse City. Upon entering the theater, the next round of confusion - lines like an amusement park - snaking back and forth across the entire lobby with no signs that explained anything. First, parking was ridiculous granted it was a Saturday, but we had to park at the old theater complex - in an unplowed parking area - to find an open space. First time at the new theater complex.and was totally confused about the layout.
